About the Artist...

Art is a journey, and mine began with music!  I studied electronic and classical pipe organ as a child.  Participated in years of Kiwanis festivals and eventually went on to teach.  A few years and two children later, my husband gifted me with a set of paint brushes and a class at the local art store.  Thus began the next leg in my creative journey, exploring folk art, tolepainting, pen and ink drawings and murals.  I began selling my work in 1996 and enjoyed the thrill of sharing my creative spirit with others. Seven years ago I took an evening class at ACAD in Jewellery Design and found great inspiration in taking a piece of raw silver and turning it into something of beauty.   I was so taken by this art form that I tucked my brushes and easel aside to make room for my new hammers, pliers and torch!

I love the creative process.  It begins with a vision in my mind’s eye and to be honest it usually ends in a totally different direction.  As I begin to play with the design concept certain shapes or textures catch my eye and then the fun begins.  Many of my designs involve hammered textures.  I love the way the hammered finish catches the light, much like a highlight stroke from a paintbrush.  Semi-precious stones, crystals and pearls allow the introduction of color.  I must admit I don’t have a favorite color – I simply like them all and I look to my paint pots for inspiration in mixing color combinations.  I strive to marry form and function to ensure a quality piece that is timeless.  All of my pieces are given names that represent elements of the design.

I work full time in my home studio and thoroughly enjoy my daily commute.  I have not abandoned my previous art forms.  My studio is filled with music.  Everything from classical to hip hop.  My paints remain at my side and my brushes still get a workout from time to time.  I believe that my jewellery represents the culmination of all three art forms.  A painters’ eye for color, the inspiration of music and the amazing power of silver, a hammer, pliers and a torch!

Jewellery Information

Sterling - All of my handmade pieces are made from 925 sterling silver.

Lampwork - These beads are handmade.  Artisans melt glass rods and mould them around a mandrel.  The price of the beads are determined by the level of difficulty and the amount of detail.  They are an art form in themselves.  These beads are kiln annealed for strength and durability. I do not make lampwork beads.  The beads used in my designs are purchased from artisans both locally and around the world!

Furnace Glass Beads - Once again these are handmade glass beads.  They are made in batches and  cut in slabs much like salt water taffy.

Bali Beads - These beads are indeed from Bali.  They are made by hand and the detail is truly amazing!!!!

Strung Bracelets - I use jewellers strand in two gauges for all my strung pieces.  The gauge of strand is determined by the weight of the piece.   Each piece is crimped with sterling crimp beads to ensure that it stays secure.

Sizing - I am happy to re-size to ensure the best fit possible.

I use semi-precious stones and quality glass beads in my pieces.  If you have any questions regarding what type of bead I have used in a piece, I am happy to share that information with you.

I take pride in the quality of my work and want to ensure that you will be happy with your jewellery.  If you have any concerns/questions please contact me.
